Study: 79% of single Israeli women harassed at workplace

Some 79 percent of single women and 15 percent of married women suffer sexual harassment in the workplace, but only 3 percent of those women ever complain, according to a new study by Dr. Abigail Mor of Tel-Hai Academic College.

According to the study, which was published in honor of International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, 38.5 percent of single women experienced sexual harassment by their employers once in a while, 40.8 percent experienced it often, and only 14.7 percent of women never experienced sexual harassment.

Among married women, 10 percent experienced unwanted sexual contact. 5 percent reported that they were harassed frequently.

The study included 461 women from the ages of 18 to 65 and referred to sexual harassment in the work place by employers or authority figures. Most of the women defined their work relations with the harassers as polite.

Despite the high statistics, only a minority of the harassed women ever filed a complaint. Only 3 percent of single women reported complaining, while only 1.2 percent of married women did.
