Srinagar, May 4: City police Monday claimed to have solved murder of a 17- year- old girl who was crushed to death by car borne eve- teasers, by arresting the duo within few hours of the crime. Romana Javed daughter of Dr Javed of Bagh- e- Mehtab died on- the - spot Sunday at Barzulla locality where she had gone for tuitions when Alto borne youth had hit her. Senior Superintendent of Police, Syed Ahfad- ul- Mujtaba told reporters that police has arrested the duo who had “ forcefully hit the girl”. Police has also confiscated the black car JK01H- 5758. “ We have cracked yesterday’s murder case within hours by arresting the two youth,” the SSP said. The SSP identified the accused as Shoaib Daryeel son of Muhammad Ashraf Daryeel of Nowhatta and Ubaid Ahmad Khan son of Zahoor Ali Khan of Bulbul Bagh, Barzulla. The duo, the SSP said, were driving the car and stalked the girl who used to come to the area to attend coaching classes. “ They were harassing the girl and before the incident the duo had handed over a slip to her with a phone number written on it. They finally drove the car too close to her, which hit her resulting in the on the spot death,” the SSP said. Thana Sadder police said the slip with the mobile number lead to the breakthrough.
“ At first the only clue with us from the eye witness account was that it was a black Alto. But finally when a witness said she ( Romana) had refused to accept the slip with mobile number and tore it to pieces we at once rushed back to the spot to look for it,” police said. “ A team of the police station Sadder led by SHO, Feroz Qadri acted upon the clues and the statement of the witnesses.
The team also recovered the torn pieces of the slip on which they had written their phone number. They pieced together the torn slip and made up the phone number which helped in their arrest,” he said. “ After carrying out the investigations, police arrested the duo and also seized the car used for the crime,” the SSP said, adding that the car, driven by Shoaib Daryeel belonged to his father Ashraf Daryeel. The SSP said the investigations in case were underway, while a case under section 302, 304 RPC for murder and eve teasing are registered at the Sadder police station. Police and the Forensic Science Laboratory ( FSL) team, he said, solved the case in less then 24 hours by acting of the clues and other samples recovered from the scene of the murder.
