According to a news report published in Greater Kashmir on 22 July 09, Chief minister Omar Abdullah expressed a need to develop Night Clubs in Kashmir! This is it. In the name of bring back normalcy to the valley, this is what we have descended to. We have infamously supported Alcohol proliferation in the valley in the past. We say, it send out the right signal - that normalcy is returning. This is bull crap. Since when did normalcy returning to Kashmir become a slave to liquor being publicly sold.
Today as well, we are citing the same reasons. We want our Kashmir to linger in the memories of our tourists, so we want to open Night clubs. Tell me, who will give a damn about remembering Kashmir if a Night Club availability dictates his visit here!
And besides, we are what we are. If we change, we will not attract more tourists but lose them. Any changes to our culture and our values are not welcome at all. Whatever be the excuse!

CM regrets Varmul killings

Asks Army To Produce Disappeared Youth

DANISH NABI

Srinagar, July 1: The chief minister, Omar Abdullah, Wednesday regretted the killing of four youth in Varmul, and asked the army to produce, dead or alive, the Larkipora youth, who went missing in custody.
“Loss of life in Varmul is unfortunate and it should not have happened. We have ordered forces to use maximum restraint but such incidents happen due to provocation by stone pelting. The culprits, however, will not be spared,” Omar told media on the sidelines of inaugural ceremony of Nigeen club here.
Omar said the government was concerned about the whereabouts of the youth, Basharat Ahmad of Larkipora in South Kashmir, and it has sought details from the officials. “If he is dead, army will have to produce his body and if he has left the camp alive then they will have to produce the evidence of his departure,” Omar said.
He said no one could be held guilty on mere suspicion and but if the investigations reveal that the boy was killed in custody, the guilty would not be spared.
He said the police have been asked to use sniffer dogs in locating the missing youth, and the camp has been left open for anyone to see.
“We have asked army to keep the camp open for media and commoners so that everyone can see the ground situation. If the boy departed from the camp then sniffer dogs can locate his whereabouts,” he said.
Asking media for a “more responsible role”, the CM said the Varmul incident might not have happened if the media would have presented the correct picture of the incident that led to protests there.
“The only victim in Varmul case was the father of the 14-year-old abducted girl. But it was presented in a way which made the situation turbulent,” he said.
Responding to a question, the CM said the replacement of CRPF by armed police in Varmul was according to the government’s plan.
“We are trying to reduce number of troops from the populated areas and it is just a step towards that. It is also in accordance to the wishes of the union home minister expressed during his recent visit to the Valley,” he added.
“We have ordered that CRPF shall operate under the district magistrate only but so far it has remained on paper only. There is a need for greater accountability and we are working for it,” he added.
Addressing the function, Omar called upon separatists to look out for a process to punish the government for its possible crimes instead of going for strikes.
He said the strikes were a punishment for the poor men as their livelihood gets affected but it was no way to express anger against the government.
“I don’t lose anything through strikes except for a slight affect on government’s image. But it is punishment for poor man who lives on daily earnings,” he said, adding, “If you feel government is guilty for anything, find a way to punish us. We are ready to face the punishment but why are you punishing a common man by calling strikes.”
He said everyone has a right to express his views in democracy but the civil society would have to understand the affect of strikes.
Omar said tourists needed a place which sustains their attention for longer periods of time. “For that we need to develop night clubs like Nigeen. Economic liberalization has made out of country tours affordable and we need the infrastructure to catch the attention of tourists in that competition. We can develop our tourism infrastructure like Dubai and Malaysia which are Muslim countries,” he said and congratulated the tourism ministry for restarting the Nigeen club after two decades.
“It is a step in the right direction and we will soon try to revive other clubs in the Valley,” he said, adding the revival of Nigeen club symbolizes the situation in the state.
“Like Nigeen club our state too has good and bad days. When bad days come we shall wait for good times,” he said.
Omar said the tourism has an important role to play in curbing the unemployment in the Valley. He said the government jobs could not restrain the growing unemployment.
“We need to develop tourism to generate employment for a large chunk of society,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, minister for tourism and culture, Nawang Ringzin Johra, said the peace was prerequisite for tourism. “Unfortunately there are hick ups but we are trying our best to maintain the tourist rush, despite all factors. We are hopeful of cooperation from the society,” he said.
The MLA Hazratbal, Dr Mustafa Kamal, congratulated the government for reviving the club. Among those present were Nasir Sogami, commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation Khwaja Farooq Renzu, MLA Zadibal, Afaq Ahmad and director tourism Farooq Shah

Either you must be blind or you have returned from such night club just now!

Do you remain in his back pocket, that you are so sure he has said nothing like that.
I mean just show some sense and refer to the link. It is a newspaper, they don`t print anything from anywhere.

Truth is always bitter, but how badly it stings some people is evident from your response. Next time you react to truth, try doing it with senses and yes, with some morals as well.
